This is not an "original composition", but is in fact an arrangement of a song my mother made up and used to play for me. Although she could not read music, my mother could play any familiar hymn by ear. I wanted to make videos of Mama's playing while she was still able, but she had "camera fright", and arthritis got to her a year or so before the COPD-related dementia did. Her version of the song was in a block-chord hymn style. I chose to leave the melody intact, but added a more pianistic accompaniment and a few changes to the harmony. I also included one little nod to her favorite pianist, Floyd Cramer. There were no words, but her original title was "In the Arms of Jesus". I chose to title it "Mama's Song" - because regardless of religious faith or lack thereof, we all have had, or do have, a Mama.
